De Chapman

Area of Expertise: Cowboy Mounted Shooting Location: Larkspur, Colorado Charity: ShootPony.com De Chapman discovered mounted shooting during a time when she was traveling with her toddler daughter, Biven, to barrel races 5 times a week with her futurity horses as well as her WPRA horse. At the same time, her husband, Paul, was competing in shooting competitions like Trap Shooting, Bench Rest Shooting and SASS ground shooting. As a family, they hated having to head different directions every weekend. So, over the next few years they met local shooters and went to practices, to start acclimating their horses to mounted shooting. They fell in love with the people in the sport and the camaraderie that seemed especially unique to the sport. Because Cowboy Mounted Shooting has only been around since the 1990s, most of the competitors come from varying equine disciplines. They realized, and loved, that it truly is a FAMILY SPORT. Senior competitors make up roughly 1/3 of the members, and it is not unusual to see 3 generations traveling and competing together with classes for children, open and senior competitors. Because of this, they all get to compete together at Cowboy Mounted Shooting events and get to travel as a family to all of their competitions. The Chapmans even have their own personal family competition, competing for the coveted prize -- the tv remote at the Chapman house. Every member of their family is now a level 6 shooter, which happens to be the highest level of shooting, and a rare accomplishment in the sport. In 2019, De was ranked #1 Cowgirl in Cowboy Mounted Shooting, winning titles such as the 2019 Eastern US Champion Cowgirl, 2019 Reserve Champion Cowgirl and the 2019 High Point Champion Cowgirl Pistol and Rifle. At home and on the road, De offers lessons, clinics, and coaching for kids and adults getting into mounted shooting, as well as those that want to hone their skills. She is working on some cowboy mounted shooting futurity prospects of her own as well. Want to learn more about De Chapman or Cowboy Mounted Shooting? Expert Tip:

Make sure to always brush-on or rub-in fly sprays when you use them. They will work better, and last longer, than if you simply just mist your horse.
