Joan Olson

Area of Expertise: American Baskir Curly Horses Location: Reno, Nevada Charity: Curly Horse Advocates Joan Olson, owner of High Desert Equine and Ironwood Events Center, has been a Curly horse owner, breeder and lover for over 20 years. Getting her start with a few little untrained Curly horses in Wisconsin in 2000, she is now located just outside Reno, Nevada and owns one of the largest herds in the Western U.S. Her breeding program stands three full registered American Bashkir Curly Stallions, including a double registered Curly Missouri Foxtrotter, of which there are currently only six in the world. She also boasts ownership of two horses who have been inducted into the American Bashkir Curly Hall of Fame. She produces full Curlies as well as Curly Foxtrotters and outcross Curlies of the sport horse type. While High Desert Equine is primarily her breeding program, Ironwood Events Center is a full-service facility with three full time trainers on staff. The equestrian team can be seen competing frequently at Hunter/Jumper and Dressage Shows with many wins to their credit. In addition to horse shows, the Center also hosts other events including dog agility trials, ropings, livestock shows, poultry shows, clinics, community meetings, baby showers, weddings, and birthday parties among others. The Center is also a Red Cross facility, and is the valley fire evacuation point. During wildfire season, Ironwood Events Center has hosted over 300 evacuated animals and people. Joan has been the President of the American Bashkir Curly Registry for many years, helping these rare and awesome horses at all levels.The American Bashkir Curly Registry was established in Ely Nevada in 1971 with only 21 horses. The Registry has since moved to Florence Kentucky and now has registered over 4000 horses to date. It has also established a DNA database to help owners of Curlies with unknown parentage to find their ancestors. Joan invites anyone who would like to come meet the Curly Horses to come visit!! Jared Hixon

Area of Expertise: Team Roping Location: Bakersfield, CA Charity: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Jared Hixon lives in Bakersfield, CA and is a heeler in the sport of team roping. He is a 14 time California Circuit Finals Qualifier and a 2018 Salinas Rodeo Champion team roper. Jared started roping at a very young age. He learned from his family, who would put on jackpots where he would rope when he was only 7 years old. Growing up, he rode and trained young horses for his parent’s auction yard. Jared has been training roping horses for 20+ years, and is currently riding and training horses at his place in Bakersfield, CA. His current rodeo partner (header) is Pat Boyle from Shandon, CA. Hixon and Boyle are currently leading the California Circuit Standings.

Alexis Scott

Area of Expertise: Arabian Horses - Saddleseat, Hunt Seat, Eq Location: Norwalk, Iowa Charity: Arabian Horseman's Fund Alexis Scott rode to her first National Championship at the age of four. Twenty-three years later, she is training and coaching her riders to their own national titles. Alexis rode to 13 National Championships, one Reserve National Championship, and numerous Top Ten awards during her career as a youth rider. In 2006, she traveled to Parys, South Africa, as a member of the United States Saddle Seat Equitation World Cup Team. The team defended their Gold Medals at that year's Saddle Seat World Cup Competition, and came home wearing Gold yet again. Alexis was only the second rider from the Arabian breed to make the team. Since 2009, Alexis has devoted her incredible talents to teaching riders of all ages and skill levels the ins and outs of horsemanship. Her riders are among the truly elite in the Arabian industry, placing in the Top Ten in their respective disciplines year after year.
